The family of a popular Fife man who died in an alleged hit-and-run have paid tribute to him.
Dave McArthur, 43, was hit by a white Ford Transit van outside the Tesco Express on Station Road, Cardenden, at around 8.05pm on Thursday.
He was taken to Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital in a critical condition and died at the weekend.
Mr McArthur, of Lochgelly, had been shopping with his mother immediately prior to the incident.
On Tuesday, his family issued a statement which read: “We are all devastated by the news, no words can describe how much we will miss him. We love you Dave.”
Mr McArthur was in the armed forces for many years before serving the community in civilian life by helping people struggling with addiction.
Friend Peter Kwok set up a crowdfunding page to support the family following the tragedy.
Around £3,000 was raised within just 24 hours of the campaign being set up, and the target was increased to £7,500 to reflect the messages of support for Mr McArthur’s loved ones.
Police have arrested a man, 41, in connection with the collision.
Sergeant Alastair Purvis, of the Fife Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr McArthur’s family and friends.
“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this tragic incident and we would urge anyone who has information but has not yet spoken to an officer to come forward.
“We are grateful to everyone who has assisted with our inquiries so far.”
