A Fife community centre has launched a £10,000 survival fund to stave off possible closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Linton Lane Centre in Kirkcaldy began an online crowdfunder after being forced to cancel all bookings and close a huge range of activities.

Manager Mandy Henderson said more than £17,000 in critical income would be lost if the closure lasts throughout the summer.

She said the only way to remain viable post-lockdown, is through public donations.

The centre, which has been at the heart of the Templehall area for 50 years, is still hosting Kirkcaldy Foodbank and staff and volunteers are providing support to those who need it.

Mandy said with no income from hires and lets and  all user groups on hiatus, supports is needed.

“From our nurseries to our youth club to our senior citizens groups, all ages are represented here at Linton Lane.

“We have a variety of support groups running which provide a vital service for those in the community who are living with the effect of a stroke, head and brain trauma and alcohol and drug addiction.

“We also provide a mental health drop-in clinic and a foodbank which operates five days a week.

“Our recreational classes, including dance, karate, crafts and drama have been running for many years and are very popular."

Appealing for donations, she said the centre expects to lose around £17,500 during the prolonged closure.

“With a loss like this there is a possibility that the centre may not reopen.
