Fife library staff have been reaching out to their readers during lockdown.
With facilities across the region closed, staff are keeping in touch with potentially vulnerable customers who used their libraries as a source of social contact.
June Souter, ONFife’s Libraries service development manager, said: “I’ve never been prouder of the library team.
“Libraries have always been safe spaces where the vulnerable and lonely would be welcomed.
“Our building doors may be closed but the heart of the library is its people and we are delighted that our staff can still connect with our readers to be a friendly voice, a listening ear and a signpost to other community resources.”
Library staff have been phoning customers to keep them informed about what services are available and have a chat to prevent them from becoming isolated.
So far more than 80 staff have volunteered to make the calls and the project aims to reach out to more than 2500 readers.
First to be contacted were customers who have books delivered to their homes.
ONFife said the response had been overwhelmingly positive and one couple had taken up the offer of getting help over the phone to access RB Digital, which allows free access to digital books, magazines and audiobooks.
