A 23-year-old man has died in a crash on a notorious stretch of one of Fife’s busiest roads.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision involving a silver Honda Civic vehicle on the A92 Glenrothes to Kirkcaldy road, between the Bankhead and Redhouse roundabouts, at around 11.35pm on Thursday evening.

Despite efforts to save the man the driver was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The police have not named the dead man but have confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The normally busy stretch of A92 between Redhouse and Bankhead roundabouts remained closed for more than seven hours as police carried out a collision investigation.

The cause of the tragic accident remains a mystery and crash investigation officers have appealed for any witnesses, in the area at the time to come forward to help determine how the accident happened.

The stretch of A92 near to Redhouse roundabout has been the scene of a number of serious road traffic accidents in recent years, most notably in 2016 when a 36-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son were tragically killed after the car they were in collided with a lorry.

Following the news of the death, many took to social media to pay tribute to the victim.

Sergeant Ewan Pearce of the Glenrothes Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the man who sadly lost his life in this tragic incident.

“I am asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the vehicle prior to the crash, to contact us if you have not already done so.

“We are also asking anyone in the area at the time to review their dashcam footage for anything relevant that could assist with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact officers by calling 101 and quoting incident 4348 of August 6, 2020.
