Police have appealed for help to identify a body recovered from the Firth of Forth almost a fortnight ago.

The man was pulled from the river near Culross on August 5 and a trawl of missing person reports across the country has drawn a blank.

Officers say his death is being treated as unexplained and a report has gone to the procurator fiscal.

He is said to have been between 40 and 60-years-old, around 5ft 10in, with dark hair which was beginning to go grey.

When found, he was wearing black Nike trainers,  black three-quarter length Lonsdale jogging bottoms, a black Lonsdale hooded top and a khaki green Primark t-shirt with DOWNTOWN and the number 1989 on it, with a skyline image.

The t-shirt worn by the unidentified man.

Detective Inspector Karen Muirhead, of Dunfermline CID, called for anyone with information which could help police identify him to come forward.

“We have checked all our missing person reports and circulated the details across other police forces nationally, however this has drawn a blank so far,” she said.

“I would appeal to anyone who may recognise this description, or who may know of someone who fits this description and who may not have been seen for a while to get in touch with us through the 101 number.

“Callers should quote the reference number 0602 of August 5 2020.

“It is important to us that we trace family members and have this man returned to his family as soon as possible.

“It is sad that so far we have not been able to make contact with any family or friends of the dead man to let them know what has happened to him.”
