Missing Allan Bryant’s family informed after human remains found in Glenrothes

Police probing the discovery of human remains in Glenrothes have informed the family of missing Allan Bryant.

CID officers visited the family at their home on Sunday following the grim discovery at Whitehill Industrial Estate shortly after 5pm.

It is understood the remains were found by a member of the public and forensics officers are carrying out a detailed probe, including in disused industrial units.

Mr Bryant’s father, Allan Sn, said the news had come as a complete shock and described it as both “heartbreaking and distressing”.

“I was in the garden when CID officers called at the house to inform us that remains had been found,” he said.

“It’s extremely difficult news for everyone in the family to take in but we are hoping it’ll give us the closure we are looking for.

“However, we’ve been told it’s too early to know if it is Allan and forensics will be there this morning.

“We were informed the discovery was made by a member of the public rather than from information arising from the ongoing into Allan’s disappearance.”

Allan Jn was 23 when he disappeared following a night out at Styx nightclub in Glenrothes in November 2013.

Despite extensive investigations, no trace of him has ever been found.

Locals reported a huge police presence at Whitehills Industrial Estate on Sunday night, with police vehicles blocking access.

Officers said investigations were at an early stage.
