Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital car parks to close amid weather warnings

Fife’s main hospital has decided to close two of its car parks as a precautionary measure from 6pm on Friday evening after heavy rain was forecast.

A Met Office amber warning for potential flooding for parts of Tayside and Fife is in force from 3am on Saturday October 3 until 6pm on Sunday October 4.

With that in mind, in a bid to avoid a repeat of the incredible scenes seen in Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital car parks during flooding incidents in August, NHS Fife has decided to close car parks A and B until it is deemed safe to reopen them.

Dozens of staff members and visitors could only watch as an overnight deluge caused significant damage in the hospital’s well-used car parks, with vehicles found floating around in the floodwater and on occasion piled up on top of each other.

NHS Fife has released a map of the car parks ahead of this weekend’s closure.

There is no suggestion that this weekend’s forecasted rain will cause a similar situation, but NHS Fife has decided to take pre-emptive action just in case.

A NHS Fife spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience and wish to reassure patients, visitors, and staff that both car parks will be reopened as soon as possible once the weather warning has expired.”

Parking for patients and visitors will be available in car parks H and F, and the Drop Off area and Blue Badge spaces at the Main Entrance will also remain accessible.

Staff have been asked to use Car Park K on the hospital site if possible.
