Kirkcaldy man jailed for breaking into ex-partner’s home and stealing her dog

A bizarre break-in resulted in a 38-year-old man entering the Kirkcaldy home of his former partner and stealing her dog.

Andrew Pattie had been released early from prison when he committed the offence.

He has now been sent back to jail for ten months.

Pattie, currently a prisoner at Perth, admitted that on April 14 he broke into the house occupied by Lindsey Ritchie, in Jean Armour Gardens, Kirkcaldy and stole a dog and a quantity of medication.

Depute fiscal Claire Bremner said the couple had in an “on-off relationship” for two years.

He had been released from jail in January this year and made attempts to keep the relationship going but they had separated by April.

When Ms Ritchie left her home on the day of the offence she told her son to make sure he locked the door behind her and to use extra locks which had been fitted.

At around 2.30pm Ms Ritchie’s son heard the door banging and discovered Pattie was in the house but the two spoke for a while after this before the son returned to his bedroom.

He heard Pattie going about the house and when he spoke to him later the accused appeared to be more drunk than earlier.

A bottle of vodka was later found half empty in the kitchen, the depute added.

When Pattie’s ex-partner returned home she discovered her dog was missing.

Defence solicitor Christine Hagan said the offence was committed “in quite idiotic circumstances”.

She added: “They had been in a relationship until days before but it had turned sour and is definitely at an end.”

The dog was returned unharmed later the same day, said Ms Hagan.

Sheriff Charles Macnair sent Pattie back to serve the 107 days unexpired from his previous sentence as well as another 200 days for the latest offence.
