The best that Kirkcaldy has to offer was being celebrated on Wednesday at the start of a week-long series of events.
The Festival of Township kicked off in the Town Square yesterday with a focus on all things environmental.
Local community groups and firms promoting the benefits of green living were showcasing their work at the start of the six-day event.
A marquee has been erected to host the events, with all aspects of Kirkcaldy life being touched upon in the coming days.
One of the groups behind the festival is local town centre BID group Kirkcaldy 4 All, with its manager Bill Harvey saying that he hopes this week’s event will be the first of many.
“We already had the marquee for the Bavarian Beer and Musical Festival next week and we found that to hire it for an extra week was going to be at a minimal cost.
“Fife Council have very kindly supported this and we are able to showcase everything that the Kirkcaldy area has to offer.
“It’s been a collaborative effort.”
While focusing on environmental issues on Wednesday, Thursday will see the emphasis shift towards local voluntary organisations, while Friday will see performances from local musical societies and bands, including the East Fife Ladies Choir, Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic Society and the Dysart Colliery Silver Band.
Arts and crafts, a farmers market and a sing-a-long event will also be held in the coming days.
One of the locals exhibiting yesterday was Sherv Godji, of the Computer Fix-It stand.
Offering free repairs to computer equipment, he said that events like yesterday allowed businesses and groups to reach out to people they may otherwise not engage with.
“Doing this allows us to help people that may be from more deprived areas, that can’t afford to repair or go out and buy new computers or tablets when they break.
“Events like this can be a lifeline if kids have homework to do or if there are family members that need to be contacted abroad.”
Events run until Tuesday in the Town Square, before the Bavarian Beer and Music Festival begins next Thursday.
