A woman and two teenage girls tried to wrestle a knife from the hands of a man during a terrifying Christmas Eve incident.
Wayne Reekie had been asked to leave the house the day before due to drunkenness but returned and pretended to self harm with a kitchen knife.
Fiscal depute Freya Anderson-Ward told the court the woman was Reekie’s wife of 14 years.
At the time of the incident two other people were also present.
She said: “The accused was intoxicated on December 23 and the complainer asked him to leave.
“He returned on December 24 and appeared to be under the influence.
“He entered the living room and was asked to leave but refused.
“He went into the kitchen and picked up a large kitchen knife.
“He stated towards the complainer: ‘Fat cow. I don’t love you and my dad’s dead’.
“He pointed the blade towards his stomach and then ran it across his wrists as if intending to self harm.”
Struggle to get knife
Ms Anderson-Ward said Reekie’s wife and one of the other people made an effort to take the knife from him but had been unsuccessful.
She continued: “The accused swung and brandished the knife towards them.
“Police were called and observed the accused shouting incoherently and staggering.”
She said one person had received a scratch as a result of the struggle for the knife.
Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard the 48-year-old was struggling in the aftermath of his father’s recent death.
Solicitor Zander Flett said: “Mr Reekie has a long-standing problem with alcohol and appears to accept that.
“He had been drinking and his partner asked him to reside elsewhere for the night.
“On the 24th he had been drinking and in those circumstances he was not welcome.”
Reekie, of Shetland Place, Kirkcaldy, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at an address in Cowdenbeath on December 24.
Sentence was deferred for reports.
