A passer-by had a narrow escape when a huge section of tree crashed down into a Kirkcaldy street.
The young woman was walking in Abbotshall Road when the massive branch collapsed on to the pavement and more than halfway across the carriageway.
She was unhurt but shaken by the incident shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.
A resident of nearby East Fergus Place who heard the tree come down said the woman, who she reckoned was in her late teens, had jumped out of the way after hearing the tree crack.
Paige Quinn, 21, said: “She said if she had had her earphones in and not heard it it would have landed on her.
“If it had fallen the other way it would have smashed right into our flat.”
The tree is one of several in the grounds of Osborne House, which contains several flats.
Paige was at home with boyfriend Ben Steele when the branch fell.
She said: “We heard it in our house and wondered what the noise was.
“It sounded like a tree but we didn’t think it could be.
“We went out and at the top of the road there was this huge branch.
“There was a girl standing at the other side of the road and she said she had been about to walk underneath it.”
Paige said the branch looked like it was rotten and they were now worried about the other trees nearby.
The incident was reported to Police Scotland and Fife Council sent officers to the scene to clear the road shortly afterwards.
