PKD staying put as big names planned for 2017

The PKD Festival is allowed to remain in its present Dalgety Bay site and is now in negotiations with more big name headliners.

A question mark had hung over where the festival would be held next year after alcohol was banned from its home at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre.

Organiser Mark Bennett said following weeks of negotiations, PKD was staying put and is hopeful there will be bar facilities, although Fife Sports and Leisure Trust said it is still sticking by its booze ban.

A spokeswoman for the trust said: “The trust is in talks with the organisers of the PKD Festival with a view to hosting the 2017 event at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre.

“There has been no change to the trust’s policy in allowing alcohol to be sold or consumed at its facilities.”

Mr Bennett is still confident alcohol will be permitted during the event.

“Yes, we’re staying where we are and yes, there will be a bar,” he said.

“Negotiations are still ongoing with the board of trustees about the extent of what the bar will be like but common sense will prevail.”

Although unable to reveal next year’s headliners, he hinted that the line up would feature a number of female artists and he is talks with an all-female retro act from the 1990s.

Last year’s event featured artists included S Club and indie band Space. Mr Bennett confirmed that some acts from last year would be returning.

“After the cheese hour we’re looking to rock it up. We’ve got the Kris Barras Band, who will be back. All female rock band Dorja will also be back as will IDestroy.

“We’ve got a bit of a girl festival going on so the cheese hour will also be a little bit girly.”

Tickets for PKD went on sale on Wednesday morning and so far sales are going well but Mr Bennett said sponsorship was vital to keeping the event alive and appealed to firms to show their support.

He said: “What we really need is sponsors. At the end of the day, every single penny we raise goes back into the community. None of us get paid.

“We’ve got £56 left and now we’re starting to fund raise. The event is always in jeopardy if we can’t raise funds.”

He described the Dalgety bay site as “perfect”.

He added: “It’s easily managed. It’s three minutes from the nearest train station, buses go past, it doesn’t affect houses because of the way we angle the stage and we’ve got perfect changing facilities for the superstars. It’s everything we need.”
