Towns and villages across Fife started getting into the festive spirit over the weekend.

Kinghorn Golf Club played host to dozens of hardy souls who braved the cold for the RNLI’s Santa Fun Run.

Adults taking part donned free Santa suits and youngsters were given elf costumes for the mile-long run which is expected to raise a lot of cash for the local lifeboat station.

Visitors again turned out in their droves in Kirkcaldy town centre for the annual lantern parade and fireworks, with the town’s Christmas lights switch-on also taking place on Saturday.

There was a performance by local school children of Kirkcaldy’s Christmas song ‘Bringing the Light’, which was projected on to the Town House ahead of the fireworks.

And for those who requested a clip with some of the classical backing … here's the closing sequence as the music stops and the final finale explodes above the town hall. Thanks again to all involved … and to all who came to support this great community event.

Other highlights saw Santa given a helping hand to switch on the lights in Cupar on Saturday by Citizen of the Year Sue Jack and Young Citizen of the Year Alana Isbister.

Sue has been involved in Scouting in Cupar for around quarter of a century, while Alana, 15, is a Brownie, Guide and Rainbow leader in the town.

CBeebies favourites Bing and Flop were in Glenrothes for its switch-on event on Sunday in the Kingdom Centre.

St Andrews was also packed on Saturday as the town combined its Christmas lights switch-on with festivities in the lead up to St Andrew’s Day on Wednesday.

The headline act was former Runrig frontman Donnie Munro, who performed at a free concert on Saturday afternoon, although the likes of Skerryvore, Celter Schmelter and Caroline Gilmour warmed up the audiences on a chilly afternoon.

Andrews from across Europe were on button-pressing duties before an open-air ceilidh.
