A large crowd gathered at a street protest near a Glenrothes primary school on Wednesday evening.
About 100 people were on Marchmont Crescent close to Southwood Primary School from around 7pm before police attended.
Reports from the scene said some were shouting and chanting over the presence of one of the residents.
The protesters remained in a lane connecting Marchmont Crescent and Ednam Drive for a number of hours.
A witness said windows were smashed at an address during the incident before the crowd dispersed just before 10pm.
‘More and more people arrived’
One man told The Courier: “There were people shouting in the direction of one of the addresses, more and more people arrived within the lane.
“There was six police officers at the scene when I was there.
“I would say there was around 100 people there protesting at its peak.
“It was a mixture of men, women and children that were packed into the area around the lane.
“Large numbers of people began to leave before 10pm but there was still people mulling around.
“I could see a window at one of the properties was damaged during tonight’s incident.”
‘No risk to the wider public’
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.40pm on Wednesday police were called to a report of a crowd gathered outside a house in Marchmont Crescent, Glenrothes.
“Officers attended and engaged with the crowd, who later dispersed.”
