Cupar Youth Café has received grant funding to support Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018.
Total awards of £3604 have been received from the Scottish Government and Youth Link Scotland through their Cashback For Communities grant making scheme.
Grants had also been received from Young Scots Create18 fund with match funding from Al-Maktoum College Community Fund.
This follows on from recognition last year by national funding body, Lloyds TSB Foundation, which featured a video of the cafe on their website.
Café co-ordinator Gemma Frail said the money would be used to assist in celebrating the achievements of young people across the Youth Café programme as well as an art project for young people to get involved in
She said: “Part of this grant will mean we can host a Cupar Youth Café celebration event as part of the Year of Young People 2018 celebrations.
“After the success of our 15-year birthday celebration in October 2016, we have been making plans to replicate this in 2018.
“We aim to celebrate the contribution that young people make to our community and the importance that youth work plays in this.”
Former Cupar solicitor Charlie Milne, chairman of the Cupar Youth Café management committee, welcomed the funding.
He said: “Whilst we are very grateful for the continued funding from Fife Council we recognise the constraints on local government finance and have been trying to secure additional funding from other sources.
“It has to be welcomed that these prestigious bodies have been prepared to recognise our work with these grants.”
Cupar Youth Cafe is a satellite project of Cupar YMCA-YWCA.
It was opened by the then First Minister Henry McLeish in 2001 and has been visited twice by current First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Cupar Youth Cafe assists young people to develop their own potential and offers a range of projects to young people of secondary school age, with a comprehensive range of activities designed to stimulate personal and social development.
Activities include personal development programmes in the Youth Cafe and local schools, 16+ Activity Agreements, volunteering opportunities for young people, music and creative projects, health based drop-in groups, support to young people not engaging in full time education programmes as well as programmes of events during school holiday periods.
*The cafe management committee are always looking for new volunteers and currently are searching for a new treasurer.
