Property stolen as rural crime wave hits North East Fife

A crime wave in rural North East Fife has netted thieves £15,000 in stolen property.

Households in Flisk, Balmerino, Kilmany, Fincraigs, Wormit and were targeted last weekend, with agricultural and gardening equipment taken in the raids.

A quad bike, chainsaws, angle grinders and petrol cans were among those items stolen, though the quad bike and some items have subsequently been traced and returned to their owners.

Hedge cutters and bikes were also reported missing, police have confirmed.

Officers leading the hunt for those responsible say that they have already made a breakthrough in their investigation, however, they have appealed for any potential witnesses to come forward to assist with their inquiries.

Community ward sergeant Sharon Holmes said: “We are following a positive line of inquiry involving a vehicle recovered that may have been used by the suspects. Officers are also on duty in these areas carrying out preventative patrols.

“We would ask residents meanwhile to be vigilant, check on outbuildings and neighbouring properties if vacant, and report any suspicious activity to the police.

“Security advice and some home security items for sale are available from your local community teams based at Cupar and St Andrews and at the Police Scotland website at the link below.”

Investigators are urging anyone with information to call officers on 101.
