Thousands of people lined Kirkcaldy waterfront for the UK’s only beach Highland games.

Cabers were tossed, races run and Highland flings danced, as all the traditional events were played out on the sands of Kirkcaldy Beach.

The 4th Kirkcaldy Beach Highland Games was set in motion and drawn to a close by a pipe band processions.

For the first time the programme included a cycle race, with the sand providing a testing circuit for competitors.

It also included the 60m Scottish beach championship race and races for children.

Heavy events were among the highlights of the day, which continued until mid-afternoon as the tide came in.

Competitors came from as far south as Kendal, in Cumbria, and as far north as Inverness to take part in the unique event.

Bill Harvey, of organiser Kirkcaldy4All, said: “We had a great crowd, we reckon around 3,000 people came and stayed.

“We had a full field of events and we got really good feedback from the athletes and competitors. It is something different for them.

“It went off wonderfully and well and we look forward to next year.”
