A teenager is warning pub-goers to be aware after her drink was apparently spiked during a night out in Fife.
Eighteen-year-old Marissa McInespie suffered blurred vision and was unable to feel her legs following an incident in a Leven pub.
The apprentice nursery worker is among several people who say they suffered the same fate on Friday and Saturday, sparking fears for the safety of revellers.
She was in three pubs but believes her drink was targeted while she was in McPhails, in North Street.
The East Dock Bar and two local taxi firms have also warned customers to be on their guard, amid suspicions of a spate of incidents.
Police said they would treat any incident with the utmost seriousness and have urged anybody affected to come forward.
Marissa’s worried mum Claire Burns has also warned people to watch their drinks when they are out this weekend.
She said Marissa had gone out with two friends to celebrate their 19th birthdays when she suddenly became unwell.
“I got a phone call at 12.30am from her friend, who was in a panic,” she said.
“She said she’d had to bring Marissa home. She couldn’t move her and she was covered in sick.
“She had passed out and when she came round she couldn’t feel her legs.”
Claire, from Windygates, said her daughter had vomited almost continuously for two and a half hours.
“Marissa and her friends are all sensible. They’re good girls and they’d only had three drinks so it’s not like they were drunk,” she said.
“Thank goodness her friend was looking after her as goodness knows what could have happened to her.”
Warnings from two local taxi firms have been shared more than 2,000 times on Facebook.
Bob’s Taxis and Magnum Taxis put out a statement, saying: “It seems there are some bad people doing the rounds in the back street, Leven, again.
“Two nights in a row people have had their drinks spiked. Also some creep following girls from pub to pub.
“We need to look after our own. Stay safe out there and if you’re in a group, stick together. It’s safer that way.”
The East Dock Bar said: “There seems to be some vile individual going around Leven spiking people’s drinks.
“Never leave drinks unattended. Be wary of accepting drinks from strangers.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We have had no recent reports of any drink spiking incidents in the Leven area, but would treat any such incidents with the utmost seriousness.
“Should you have information relating to drink-spiking then please come forward via 101.”
McPhails leaseholder Alan Finnegan said: “It is worrying if this happening around the town.
“I have told the bar and door staff to be extra vigilant.
“Any unattended drinks are lifted.”
