Decision on Aberdour housing plans “weeks” away says DPEA

A final decision on a controversial Aberdour housing proposal is expected in “weeks”.

The Scottish Government’s Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA) was expected to publish its decision on Cala’s proposal for 85 new homes on farmland at the east of the village in December.

Nearly three months since the DPEA’s target date, a decision has yet to be issued.

Cala launched an appeal after west Fife councillors unanimously rejected the plans in July last year.

More than 850 objections had been received in relation to the proposal for houses on a field south of the A921.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “The appeal is under consideration by an independent planning reporter in order to determine the case on behalf of Scottish Ministers.

“This is a complex case, with the reporter considering large numbers of submissions, including representations from more than 900 interested parties. At this stage it is anticipated that a decision will be issued in the coming weeks.”

Councillors threw out the plans last year after a site visit, when concerns were raised about traffic congestion at the east of the village.

The committee’s SNP convener Alice McGarry said transportation measures aimed at easing congestion mentioned in the report to the committee did not “address the very serious problems of traffic using the brae”.

Council planners had recommended approval with conditions including provision of affordable homes, a strategic transport contribution and a contribution towards temporary accommodation at Aberdour Primary School.
