Burntisland child rapist jailed for “horrific” assaults

A child rapist who left an underage girl feeling she wanted to wash in bleach has been jailed for eight years.

Alan Roy, 62, raped the girl from the age of 13 on various occasions at addresses in Kirkcaldy and at a Fife caravan park between 1996 and 2000.

He also carried out two rape bids on a second girl at the North Lodge Holiday Park in Dysart when she was aged between 11 and 13 between 1996 and 1999.

Roy, of Dick Crescent, Burntisland, had denied committing the offences during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh but was found guilty of rape and attempted rape.

Judge Lord Tyre told Roy he was convicted of an “extremely serious matter” and jailed him for six years on the rape charge and a further two years for the attempted rape of the second child.

He will remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Detective Constable Emma Moyes from Fife’s Public Protection Unit welcomed the sentence, describing the abuse as horrific.

“Alan Roy is a predator who, over a four year period, subjected two young girls to a horrific level of systematic sexual abuse.

“Had it not been for their outstanding courage in coming forward, his crimes may have gone unpunished.

“However, he will now serve a custodial sentence where he cannot harm others.”

Roy was arrested in January 2018, four months after an investigation was launched by police when one of the victims, now aged 35 and 33, came forward to report the abuse.

DC Moyes added: “I want to make it clear that time is no barrier for us when investigating sexual crimes and if you have ever been subjected to any such offence then please come forward so we can conduct a professional, thorough and sensitive investigation to bring those responsible to justice.”
