Glenrothes road closed for hours after serious accident

A serious road accident saw a busy Glenrothes road closed for six hours on Saturday.

It is understood that a vehicle left Leslie Road and crashed into the adjacent park.

Details of vehicles or people involved and the extent of any injuries are yet to be disclosed.

Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene shortly after 10am.

Parts of Riverside Park, including a skate park, were taped off on either side of the road and officers could be seen working within the cordon.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area on Saturday morning, with a warning that the A911 between the Leslie and Rothes roundabouts would be closed for some time.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that officers had been alerted to the incident at 10.10am.

Police Scotland Control Rooms tweeted: “Due to a serious road traffic collision the A911 is currently closed in Glenrothes between Rothes and Leslie r’bouts.

“This will be closed for a considerable time.

“Avoid area and find alternative route.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 10.13am to reports of a road traffic collision.

“We mobilised two fire engines to Leslie Road where firefighters assisted emergency services partners.”

The road reopened at around 4.20pm.
