A Fife MSP will have his flowing locks chopped off to raise money for Maggie’s.

David Torrance, SNP MSP for Kirkcaldy, has been growing his hair for the past year.

On September 5, he will have it cut short to raise money for the Maggie’s Fife cancer support centre.

Mark Reynolds, who owns Kirkcaldy business Revolution Barbershop, has agreed to brandish the scissors on the day.

Mr Torrance’s makeover will take place at the Scottish Parliament and there are plans to have it streamed online.

It is understood First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been asked to make the first snip after First Minister’s Questions that day but has yet to confirm if she will be available for the event.

People can sponsor the event at the Just Giving page called “The Mop’s Getting A Chop”.

Mr Torrance said: “There’s been such a buzz about my hair recently. Everywhere I go people have been telling me to cut it, so I thought if I was going to do it I may as well do some good out of it and raise money for such an excellent cause.

“Maggie’s Centre are there for anyone affected by cancer, both in a practical sense and for emotional support and wellbeing.

“I can’t thank them enough for their work in my constituency but the least I can do is help them continue the incredible work that they do.”
