Police are investigating the “unexplained” death of an Angus killer in prison.
Steven Dickie was found dead in HMP Perth on Friday at about 7.30am.
Along with Callum Davidson, the 24-year-old was convicted of the brutal murder of Steven Donaldson following a trial at Edinburgh High Court in May 2019.
Judge Lord Pentland ordered they serve a minimum of 23 and 24 years respectively.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said that police have been made aware of Dickie’s death and that a Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) will be held.
A SPS spokeswoman said: “Steven Alexander Dickie, 24, a prisoner at HMP Perth has died.
“He was convicted at Edinburgh Court on May 30 2019.
“Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.”
His death is not believed to be suspicious.
A police spokeswoman said the death is being treated as “unexplained”.
She added: “Around 7.30am on Friday, November 15 2019 police received a report a man had died in Perth Prison.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are on-going.”
Dickie’s death comes on the same day Davidson and Tasmin Glass, who was found guilty of culpable homicide, failed in a bid to have their sentences cut.
They appeared before appeal judges in Edinburgh on Friday morning.
Popular Arbroath oil worker Mr Donaldson was found dead at Loch of Kinnordy nature reserve in June 2018, triggering one of the biggest murder investigations in the history of Angus.
Glass was jailed for ten years for the culpable homicide of her former boyfriend, whose child she said she fathered while awaiting trial.
