A man has been taken to hospital following a crash involving seven vehicles after a van was seen travelling the wrong way “at high speeds” on one of Angus’ busiest roads.

‘Pieces of cars were flying everywhere’: Man in Ninewells amid shock of A90 van causing seven-vehicle crash in Angus

Emergency crews were called to the A90 two miles south of Stracathro near the Brechin turnoff at around 7.20pm on Wednesday following reports of a smash.

Police Scotland confirmed the driver of the van was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment after the vehicle, which was travelling south on the northbound carriageway, collided with the central reservation.

It is understood two other vehicles were directly involved in the initial collision, with a further four affected by the large amount of debris left strewn across the road. It is not thought anyone was seriously injured.

Police Scotland confirmed diversions remained in place for more than two hours following the smash but the road was reopened shortly before 10pm.

A spokesman said: “A van was travelling south on the northbound carriageway and collided with the central reservation and two vehicles.

“There were another four vehicles involved, so seven in total. Thankfully there were only minor injuries. Diversions were in place because there was a lot of debris.”
