Plans are still being laid for one of the UK’s biggest vintage vehicle gatherings, but organisers of the Glamis Castle event admit there is a “considerable degree of uncertainty” over the July date.
The Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club Scottish Transport Extravaganza brings a bumper turnout to the Angus landmark annually, with last year’s record-breaking entry of 1,800 vehicles enjoyed by a crowd of some 15,000 visitors.
SVVC were due to hold a spring auction at their Bridge View House headquarters on Saturday but that will not go ahead.
The regular auctions feature hundreds included cars, motorcycles, parts and memorabilia and draw interest from across the UK and Europe.
SVVC chairman Allan Burt said: “Given the rate of spread of the Covid-19 virus and the announcement from the Government recommending that all but essential gatherings be curtailed, the board of trustees has agreed that it is sensible to postpone the spring auction scheduled for this Saturday.
“The timescale for resumption of activities in a normal manner is uncertain at this challenging time, however, it is anticipated that at a suitable future date the auction will take place as intended and as set up at present.
“The SVVC will endeavour to provide regular updates on the position and will be focusing on the advice issued by the Government and being guided by that.
“In order to minimise social contact the premises at Bridge View House will remain closed to the public until further notice.”
He added: “As the current situation remains very fluid there is a considerable degree of uncertainty over the position with our Scottish Transport Extravaganza scheduled for July 11/12.
“At this time we continue to accept entries for the event. Again, we will monitor closely Government instructions and recommendations as these develop and will be guided by them.”
