Bikeability sessions have been running at Lochside primary hub in Montrose.

Children of Angus key workers have been enjoying two-wheeled training at one of the area’s school hubs.

In a new initiative led by Angus Cycle Hub, youngsters at Lochside primary in Montrose have been able to take part in Bikeability training with qualified local trainers.

Martin Harris of Angus Cycle Hub passing on Bikeability training tips to Mackinley De-Costa, 10, sisters Emily, 9, and Summerleigh Halkett, 11, and sisters Karys ,9, and Ellyse Millison, 11.

It is hoped the successful sessions may be rolled out to other Angus key worker hubs, 11 of which were set up at schools throughout the district.

Project co-ordinator John Bremner said: “Cycling Scotland have agreed that Bikeability Support Plus Funding can be utilised to support this activity.

“The trainers are involved in the delivery of Bikeability on-road training during the normal school year and the activities that they will run for this trial are based on Bikeability Scotland Level 1 – playground skills and games.

“All activities are planned and designed to comply with the local authority risk assessment, and maintain social distancing rules while enhancing cycling skills for all ages taking part,” said John.

Around 30 children have taken their own bikes to the Lochside sessions, with Bikeability fleet bikes also available.
