VIDEO: Terrifying moment of van driver’s ‘suicidal’ overtake at Angus crossroads

The van blasts past the lorry and over crossroads.

This is the terrifying moment a driver was caught on camera driving straight through a crossroads in Angus at speed.

The footage – taken just before 2pm – was uploaded by Alan Berg who described it as a “ridiculous piece of driving” on social media.

It shows a lorry pulling up and waiting at the Carnoustie junction in Muirdrum when the white van flies past it and doesn’t stop to give way.

It goes straight through the crossroads without slowing down – a manoeuvre described as “suicidal” by one person who viewed the footage.

Two people who are talking beside the junction turn round immediately after it happens – clearly taken aback by what has happened.

Mr Berg told The Courier that he works from home and has recordings of a few incidents that have occurred at the crossroads.

He said: “I see similar incidents on a daily basis.

“This is one of the worst yet.

“ I decided to share this to make people aware and hopefully bring it to the attention of the local authorities to prevent a serious incident occurring.”

The video had already been viewed nearly 10,000 times despite only being uploaded to social media late last night.

Many joined in the debate – describing the driver as an “idiot” – and speaking of the fact that anyone driving up the Muirdrum road would have had “no chance” if the van had driven out in front of them.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the matter and looking into it.”

The route the van took over the junction and on the wrong side of the road.

It is understood the footage has now been passed to the force’s road policing unit in Tayside.

The spokeswoman urged anyone with information to contact 101.
