Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has landed a £3 million Angus Council deal to deliver 22 “off-the-shelf” affordable homes in Monifeith.
The Victoria Grange project will see 12, two-bedroom and 10, three-bedroom homes added to the authority’s stock in a shared equity scheme.
Work is expected to be complete next summer.
The Monifieth project is the second such development following an Arbroath pilot earlier this year.
The 22 homes are the final tranche of affordable housing there, including three Angus Housing Association sites.

Angus Council communities convener, Councillor Mark Salmond said: “Low cost home ownership is a crucial component in our commitment to increase the supply of affordable housing in Angus and will supplement the social housing already delivered on this site.
“We will help to sustain our local communities by providing a range of routes into home ownership for those people on more modest incomes.”
Pauline Mills, land and planning director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “Reaching the conclusion of this agreement for Victoria Grange marks another milestone on the journey towards completing the new community that’s growing at this established development in Monifieth.”
Applications for the homes are expected to open early next year.
The programme will run alongside the authority’s own new-build project and the possible purchase of existing homes from the second-hand market across Angus.
Loss of sprinkler systems criticised
When agreed earlier this year, the new strategy drew criticism from opposition councillors over a claimed lack of consultation about the approach.
Officials said it would help the authority meet a target of 300 houses over five years by allowing affordable housing stock to be boosted relatively quickly at a fixed price.
Concerns were also raised about the absence of sprinkler systems in developer-built housing – a feature incorporated in council new builds for more than a decade.
Victoria Grange green light given six years ago
The Victoria Grange development received approval at the end of 2014 at a packed-out special meeting held by the council to consider four major applications for the South Angus area.
It was launched in 2017 and will eventually see the construction of more than 300 new homes, 25% of them in the affordable bracket.
As part of the Section 75 agreement surrounding permissions for the development, Taylor Wimpey will contribute nearly £4m towards local education and community facilities.
