Calls have been made for Angus Council to reopen toilets at a popular Angus park.
Residents have expressed concern over the former public toilets at The Den in Kirriemuir, which have been targeted by vandals.
Several community groups and schools have put in work to keep the park in good order, such as the P7s of Southmuir Primary, but one helper is worried about the site’s future due to lack of facilities.
Shirley Middleton, 50, who helps clean up the park every afternoon, said: “The toilets have stayed closed for ages because they have been regularly vandalised.
“The Den used to be such a popular spot for locals and visitors alike to come for picnics and have a day out, but now it is falling into a really poor state.
“The nearest toilet is a good few minutes’ walk away, which is obviously not ideal for people spending a day in the park.”
Other Kirrie residents have taken to social media to express their concerns about the site.
A spokesman for Angus Council said: “Unfortunately the public toilets at Kirrie Den suffered extensive vandalism recently and this has been reported to the police.
“It is one of five unattended public conveniences the communities committee agreed to approve for closure, following a service review, at their meeting on April 12.
“Ongoing consultation with relevant local groups is being held prior to any closure of the facilities to see if there is a viable alternative to meet service provision — such as community asset transfer.
“Talks are ongoing and any repairs at Kirriemuir are on hold pending the outcome of those discussions.”
