Two Angus teenagers are preparing to perform at one of Edinburgh’s top theatres during the Fringe.
Lauren Hutcheon from Forfar and Tasmin Glass from Kirriemuir were both selected after open auditions for Bring It On: The Musical.
The musical is based on the 2000 American comedy about cheerleaders which starred Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku and will be performed at the King’s Theatre in July.
Lauren, 19, who begins a musical theatre course at Motherwell College in August, said: “Over 200 young people from all over Scotland auditioned so we were amazed and delighted when we were selected for the cast.
“There’s great music, breathtaking dancing and cheerleading routines throughout the show.”
Following the open auditions, which included performing in front of top vocal coach and highly respected singer Zoe Tyler, both girls were given a call back to audition for the show’s principal roles.
“That was a wonderful experience,” said Tasmin, who has been given a conditional acceptance to study music at Perth College UHI.
“At the call-back, we both made it through to the final few in the audition process and now, as well as being in the chorus with Lauren, I’m also the understudy for one of the main characters.”
Tasmin is a member of Kirriemuir Amateur Operatic Society and Brechin’s OPUS Theatre Club and has been one of the dancers in Kirriemuir’s annual pantomime for several years.
Meanwhile Lauren regularly appears in Forfar Musical Society productions and has also starred in Letham’s panto.
Bring it On is a Beyond Broadway Experience production, which offers young people aged between 12 and 25 the opportunity to work on a professional-style musical theatre show alongside a team of industry experts and artists.
Tasmin added: “Rehearsals start in Edinburgh on July 9, with two solid weeks of rehearsals before opening night at the King’s Theatre on July 22.
“Lauren and I are determined to have careers in musical theatre so to be part of this fabulous show is a dream come true for both of us.”
Bring It On: The Musical premiered at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia in January 2011 before undertaking a nationwide tour.
It then ran on Broadway at the St James Theatre from August to December 2012 and the following year was nominated for two Tony awards.
