A dynamic group of local food and drink businesses have banded together to form a collaboration that is taking Angus by storm.

The aim of The Food Life group is to reinforce the county’s already strong reputation for its excellent food and drink, through a series of pop-up events set to get underway later this month.

Group leader Jillian McEwan of Fresh Food Express said: “There is an amazing array of fantastic food and drink in Angus, from produce fresh from the land and sea, to artisan drinks such as raspberry gin.

“We want to show people what is available in the area and let them try it out for themselves.

“Street food is very popular at the moment so the group felt that taking this approach would be a fun and effective way of working together to promote our products and to tell the story of Angus as a foodie destination. “

The first of the pop-up events will be a street food market at Easthaven beach on Sunday July 31 from 11am to 6pm.

“Entrance is free – there will be lots of fabulous authentic local food there and entertainment throughout the day including music, storytelling, yoga and children’s sports,” added Jillian.

“We hope that this will be the first of many events of this type right across Angus.”

Membership of the group is growing, but currently includes Fresh Food Express, Artisana, Muckle Backit Oven, Hamish’s Hogs, Sacred Grounds Coffee Co, the Gin Bothy, Fleming the Butcher, Cav & Co. Gather greengrocer/deli, Arbroath Quality Fish, Ella Drinks and Kirrie Ales.

Wendy Murray, lead trustee of the Easthaven Together Community Group said: “We are delighted that The Food Life group has decided to hold its first street food and drink event in Easthaven.

“We have held ‘foodie’ events here in the past and they have been very successful.

“This is a very welcome addition to our events calendar and we look forward to welcoming many people to the village as they come and enjoy the food, music and atmosphere in the beautiful surroundings of Easthaven beach.”

Local restaurants and unique venues are also on the radar of the group, using top local chefs.

Their programme also includes the Taste Angus Festival at Glamis next month.
