Sheriff sets deadline for update medical report on PC accused of kill threat

Forfar Sheriff Court.

A sheriff has demanded a detailed medical report on a Tayside policewoman facing charges of a kill threat against another female.

Paula Jane Wales is accused of acting in an aggressive manner at a house in Grange Road, Monifieth and kicking a door there in an alleged incident last summer.

The charge also alleges that she threatened to kill a woman.

Wales, 40, of Monifieth did not appear at Forfar sheriff court in the latest calling of the case, her attendance having previously been excused.

The matter has been delayed due to medical issues relating to the accused, but Sheriff Pino Di Emidio expressed unhappiness over requested medical information not being before the court.

The Crown opposed a motion for a further notional trial diet to be fixed in the case, citing the earlier request for an updated medical report from the accused’s defence representatives.

Local agent Brian Bell said papers already before the court included a consultant psychiatrist’s report from February in relation to what appeared to be PTSD and a further document from June concerning family medical difficulties.

“I only received instruction from the principal agents at a late stage, I am aware that this case is becoming elderly in relation to the information that is being sought,” he added.

Sheriff Di Emidio said: “It’s pretty clear that what was required here was further information from the defence and the matter has been continued for the best part of two months for that to happen.

“I will continue this matter one week to a further notional trial diet for the principal agents to provide a full explanation and an up to date position on the accused’s medical position.”

The charge alleges that Wales behaved in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm in that she shouted, swore, acted in an aggressive and abusive manner, repeatedly struck and kicked a door there, uttered threats of violence and uttered threats to kill Tracy Joan Christie, c/o the Police Service of Scotland, Dundee.
