Police have charged four teenagers – one just 13 – over a Montrose tyre-slashing spree which led to thousands of pounds of damage this week.

Around 30 vehicles in the Baltic Street and Caledonian Place areas were targeted in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with some cars having all four tyres punctured.

Locals reacted furiously to the incident, which left some families without transport.

The incident was the second of its kind in Montrose within just ten days.

A number of similar vandalisms took place in New Wynd and Bents Road over the weekend of December 17/18

Private CCTV footage was scoured as part of the investigation and a police spokesperson confirmed on Friday morning that a group of youngsters have been charged.

“Police Scotland can confirm that following reports of a number of vandalisms to cars recently in Montrose, two 16-year-old boys, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy will be reported to the Youth Justice Assessor and Procurator Fiscal in connection with the matter,” said the spokesperson.

Rugby development officer James Sadio was among those hit, with both his and his girlfriend’s car damaged.

“I had to order new tyres and it’s just as well I was on time off or that would have caused me problems,” he said.

“There are a lot of angry people around here,” he added.
