Kirriemuir is launching itself headlong into 2017 with a new community-wide venture this weekend.
The town’s first Feel Good festival will feature a full programme of events on Saturday, aimed at locals and visitors of all ages and designed to stimulate personal wellbeing as well as interest in what the town has to offer.
Kirrie Town Hall will host a day-long health and feel good fair involving a range of businesses and organisations promoting techniques including reflexology, hypnotherapy and yoga.
Catherine Marriott of the festival committee said the organisers had been delighted with the level of local backing for the new initiative.
“We are a group of business women in Kirriemuir who got together to put on this not for profit event in the hope of promoting some of the amazing things that Kirriemuir has to offer, and to promote physical and mental wellbeing through encouraging people to get active and involved.”
“So many different parts of the community have responded in such a supportive way so we are hoping for a busy and fun day.”
The town hall and Kirrie Old Parish church halls will host the daytime programme, but around the own businesses will also be welcoming visitors for taster and information sessions.
Discounts at local retailers have also been arranged and the community-run Camera Obscura will open from noon to 2pm.
In the church’s small hall a series of short public talks will take place, including one by Frank’s Law campaigner and Kirrie resident Amanda Kopel, who will also be officially opening the town hall part of the event at 10am.
Birds of Angus, biochemicals and massage and The Road to Givenchy by author Gavin Dobson are among the other talk topics.
A family ceilidh in the town hall will round off the day.
“Everyone is welcome and to make it easier for people to take part we have made everything except the ceilidh free – there is plenty for children and adults alike,” added Catherine
“All profits go to Alzheimer Scotland Angus branch and Doctors Without Borders, and we are a member of Kirriemuir and Dean Area Partnership charity.
