School choirs shine during third day of Arbroath Music Festival

School choirs had a chance to shine at the Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath yesterday as the 85th annual Arbroath & District Musical (Competitive) Festival continued.

Meanwhile brass players from schools across Tayside competed in the brass competitions at the Old & Abbey Church Hall.

Murray Bartle from Carnoustie High School won top prize in three sections – the advanced classes drum kit, tuned percussion and timpani – in the latest contests.

Thursday will see violin, viola, cello and fiddle competitions take place.

The competition continues until Friday when there will be a concert featuring selected winners at the Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath at 7pm.

The latest results were as follows:

Class 110 drumkit advanced – 1 Murray Bartle, Carnoustie High School 91; 2 James Sim, Brechin High School 88; 3 Jack Reid, Arbroath High School 87.
