An Angus shot has hit the top of the Scottish clay pigeon shooting world – after just four years in the high pressure world of competition.

At the recent two-day Scottish championship held at Scotland’s new national shooting centre near Falkirk, 46-year-old Brechin farm worker Ken Bruce bagged the 2017 national Down the Line category title, adding the senior champion and AA class champion awards for good measure.

Delighted Ken’s triumph also means an early return to the central Scotland venue where he will earn his third Scottish team cap in the Home Counties, British and European championship shoot.

Ken said: “The DTL discipline is one of the oldest, with each competition consisting of a hundred targets per shooter delivered in the air by the trap with varied angles so the target isn’t in the same place for each shooter.

“There are five shooters per squad, each taking it in turn to shoot their target with the target scored three points for being shot first time, two points for the second, and zero for a miss.”

Auchterhouse Country Sports is Ken’s home shooting ground, but the hobby also takes him to other facilities, from Inverness to North Ayrshire.
