A man died on Monday after a car left a Brechin road and hit a tree.
Motorists had to follow a diversion as police and ambulance personnel dealt with the crash on the A935 main road to Montrose at its junction with Drumachlie Loan.
Police said late on Monday night that the man was the sole occupant of the car and he was a 28-year-old who lived in the Brechin area. He died at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed of the tragedy.
The road was closed for almost four and a half hours as emergency services dealt with the tragedy.
The car, a BMW, had left the road and smashed into a tree, leaving it badly damaged.

A police spokeswoman said: “We were notified of an accident at 3.20pm and officers are in attendance.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
A local shop assistant at Dennis’s said she saw police and ambulance speeding past the shop towards Montrose at around 3pm.
The road re-opened at 7.45pm.
