Police are continuing to investigate the sudden death of an Angus teenager following a weekend tragedy.

The 17-year-old – named locally as Jack Scorgie – died at a first-floor property in Carnoustie’s Barry Road on Sunday morning.

Police have maintained a highly-visible presence outside the house on the corner of Maclagan Road since Sunday’s tragedy.

It is understood Jack’s mother was called to formally identify the deceased on Monday.

Carnoustie Independent councillor Brian Boyd said the incident had left the town in shock.

He said: “I’m shocked and saddened to hear what has happened and my thoughts are with the young man’s family at this time.

“It’s absolutely tragic that someone so young has lost their life.”

The Dundee and Angus College student is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene at 7.40am on Sunday.

Police vehicles and a hearse were also seen in the street on Sunday morning.

Police are treating the death as unexplained.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Officers attended at Barry Road, Carnoustie, yesterday morning following the sudden death of a 17-year-old male.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and as with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
