New opening hours come into force at Angus recycling centres this week.

From Thursday, the changes will impact the sites at Forfar, Kirriemuir and Monifieth.

Forfar will now operate Monday to Friday from noon to 4pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.15am to 4pm; Kirriemuir will open Monday to Thursday from noon to 4pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.15am to 4pm; and Monifieth will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 4pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.15am to 4pm.

Forfar Conservative councillor Braden Davy, who was a vocal critic of plans to close the Forfar recycling centre during the local government elections, said: “Some people may have noticed new flyers being handed out at our recycling centres, but I know not everyone will have seen them.

“I’d urge members of the public to be aware that hours are changing at Forfar, Kirriemuir and Monifieth.

“The change in opening hours follows changes to Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie and Montrose which had their hours changed on October 30 last year.

“I know a lot of people may have concerns about these changes, but the reduction in hours coincides with the quietest times of the day and ensures neighbouring centres are open when they are closed.

“I understand the reduction in times will come as a concern, but this will ensure we can work to keep provision as local as possible and as sustainable as possible.”
