WEATHER UPDATE: Gritters and ploughs battling the elements in Angus

Gritters and ploughs have been out in Angus and the Mearns since early morning with a series of roads badly affected by snow.

Currently there are roads closed at Lochlair, Carmyllie and the Lucky Slap area – B9127, B978, B9128, B961 – which is likely to be the situation all day.

Roads badly affected by snow drift include the A92 at Marywell where a plough and gritter are attempting to clear the route.

Cars were also stuck this morning on the A933 at Condor and Colliston and the A935 Montrose to Brechin road.

Work is ongoing to open the A937 Marykirk and B961 Cononsyth while the A92 between Inverbervie and Kinneff was shut by police to try to clear the volume of cars.

There were 30 cars stuck on the road this morning and Police Scotland said a snow plough and a gritter were working to resolve the situation.

There are also big problems with drifting snow in Carnoustie while cars were also stranded on the B road between Edzell to Edzell woods.

One regular commuter from Forfar to Dundee said: “The main A90 was eerily quiet this morning with very few lorries on the road.

“The problem was getting out of Forfar past ‘Duff’s Corner’ where snow had drifted down off the fields and had blocked the main carriageway.

“Thankfully motorists got out of their cars to help each other.”

“More exposed areas on the A90 caused inside lane blockages on certain parts of the route particularly the straight at Muiryfaulds at Petterden and near Tealing.”
