Golfer Ryan Moore came agonisingly close to the first hole-in-one of the 2018 Open on Thursday afternoon.
The American was within inches of sinking the ball with his first shot on the eight hole at Carnoustie Golf Links on day one of the competition.

The crowd held their breath as his shot narrowly missed the hole.
The official Open Twitter account posted footage of the shot, adding: “Almost the first ever hole in one in The Open.”

The Open got under way on Thursday morning with the championship already breaking attendance records for the golf course.
On Thursday Carnoustie Golf Links surpassed the previous record of 157,000, which was set when Aberdonian Paul Lawrie defeated Jean van de Velde and Justin Leonard in 1999.
