A Kirriemuir woman is fundraising for the second leg of a formidable back-to-back double cycling challenge.
Bethan Whamond, 20, is riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats, hard on the heels of completing the Scottish North Coast 500.
She is hoping to raise money for the Angus Independent Advocacy charity, while raising awareness of people who are facing significant challenges in their lives.
Bethan said: “It’s a privilege to do this journey for a great local cause.
“It’s not only a journey across the UK, it’s a journey which helps bring hope to voices often unheard.
“This is important especially for people experiencing elderly life care, people with mental health challenges, poverty and learning disabilities.
“I am proud to do this journey and looking forward to it.”
She also thanked everyone who had already donated funds.
Cycling from Land’s End to John o’ Groats (LEJOG) — the entire length of the UK — is a challenge that many thousands of people take on each year.
Launched just three years ago, the North Coast 500 is less well known but it has already become one of the world’s iconic road touring routes.
Travellers can head clockwise or anti-clockwise as they take in the entire north coast of Scotland, including Applecross, Ullapool, Durness, Thurso, John o’ Groats and Wick.
Angus Independent Advocacy is a small voluntary organisation based in Arbroath.
It works with people who may be vulnerable due to mental ill health, a learning disability, dementia, an acquired brain injury, or age and matches individuals with an advocate who can support them through any issues they are experiencing.

“It is heartening to hear that Bethan shares our vision of a community that promotes inclusion and equality for all and wishes to use her journey to raise awareness of the barriers people can face in having their voices heard and being part of their local communities.
