The transformation of the former Eastgate Primary School into a community hub in Friockheim has continued with staff recruitment now underway.
As well as major alterations, the organisers are busy recruiting and have announced the appointment of centre manager Barry Thomson, who takes up his role on September 1.
Barry said he is passionate about inclusion and equality and will be working with the local community to provide the wide services at the hub.
He said: “I am delighted and extremely excited to come on board as manager of FriockHub.
“I have a number of years’ experience in community work and have a vast knowledge of working in the third sector.
“I will endeavour to ensure the community stays at the centre of the hub and have an active role in its development.”
Barry will be based in the hub portable cabin initially, until the building is ready.
In addition to Barry’s appointment the hub is currently recruiting for admin support, IT support, a fitness instructor and janitor.
The hub is due to open within the next few months and will provide services, facilities and support to local residents and the wider Angus community, a place to get together socially for all age groups and where groups and clubs can meet.
The facilities include a café, indoor sports halls, fitness suite, business suites (available to rent), changing places facility, multi-sensory room, cinema facility, electric charging points in the car park and a community garden.

The halls and rooms will be available to hire for events, parties, conferences or meetings and there will be a variety of classes/sessions for all age groups including exercise, sports, youth club, I.T. and language training and a cinema club.
A spokesperson said: “FriockHub would not have been possible without the support of many generous donations and grants including ones from the Big Lottery Scotland, Angus LEADER, The Robertson Trust, the Northwood Trust and the Leng Trust.
“However, the hub’s fundraising efforts continue, initially to raise the balance of funds required to complete areas such as the changing places room and the equipment for the incorporated multi-sensory room.
“FriockHub welcomes anyone who wishes to support this development either as fundraiser or funding donors and there are opportunities for volunteer helpers.”
