A man has been confirmed dead after the emergency services were called to an Angus watercourse on Friday afternoon.
Police and firefighters were sent to the River North Esk near Marykirk at about 2.15pm following “concerns” for a person.
The force said the man’s death is not believed to be suspicious.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland are currently dealing with an incident in the Marykirk area in relation to a report of a body in the river.
“Police can now confirm that a deceased male has been recovered from the river.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and no further details will be released until next of kin have been informed.”
Firefighters are said to have used water rescue equipment during the incident.
A fire and rescue spokeswoman said two appliances – one from Montrose and another from Brechin – were called to the incident at the River North Esk in Marykirk.
She added: “We were in attendance. The call came in from the police at about 2.30pm. We sent two appliances, from Montrose and Brechin.”
