At least six vans have been raided in an Angus town.

The vehicles were targeted by thieves in Dunnichen Avenue, Kings Road and Montrose Road in Forfar.

Tools were taken from five Ford Transits and one Mercedes between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

And police say there may be other thefts which they are not yet aware of.

Two men were spotted on CCTV at the van on Kings Road at about 2am on Thursday.

They were wearing dark clothes and were seen driving off in a vehicle. One of the men had a reflective stripe on his top.

A police statement reads: “Police Scotland is appealing for information about a series of thefts from vans in Forfar overnight from Wednesday, June 5 into Thursday, June 6.

“At the moment we have reports of six vans having been broken into. Three Transits and a Mercedes in Dunnichen Avenue, and Transits in Kings Road and Montrose Road.

“All had tools or power tools taken from within. We are currently compiling lists of items stolen from the complainers. Given the locations and similarities between these thefts, we believe they are all linked.

“There may have been other break-ins to vans or trades vehicles in the area that we have not yet been made aware of.

“If you have one and live in the vicinity of these streets, please check your vehicle if you have not already done so.

“If you have any information that could assist our inquiries, particularly if you have been offered power tools for sale, please call 101 or speak with any police officer.

“Also, information can be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is CR/14584/19.”
