Crash leaves two adults and three children in hospital as Mearns road closes for seven hours

Two adults and three children were taken to hospital after a crash on a busy Mearns road on Tuesday.

The A92 Stonehaven to Montrose road was closed for around seven hours following a collision involving a black Honda Accord and white Honda CRV near Mill of Uras at about 12.50pm.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the incident with the busy route shut from Dunnottar Castle to Inverbervie.

Two adults were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and three youngsters to the city’s Children’s Hospital following the collision.

On arrival, firefighters had to use cutting gear to free casualties from one of the vehicles.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 12.53pm today to attend a road traffic collision on the A92 near Stonehaven.

“We dispatched five ambulances, our EMRS north team, one paramedic response unit, an air ambulance, our special operations team and two managers to the scene.

“We transported two adult patients to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and three child patients to the Children’s Hospital in Aberdeen.”

All five are believed to have suffered serious injuries.

The road was closed until after 8pm as officers carried out investigations into the collision.

On Tuesday afternoon a police spokesman said: “Police Scotland is currently dealing with a serious crash on the A92 at Mill of Uras, which happened at around 12:55pm.

“The incident involved a black Honda Accord and a white Honda CRV. Five people have been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with injuries, ranging from minor to serious.

“The road has been closed for southbound vehicles at Dunnottar Castle and northbound at the B967. It will remain closed for some time to allow for investigation work.”

Drivers were advised to avoid the area.

Three fire and rescue appliances, two from Stonehaven and another from Altens, were called to the scene of the crash at 12.50pm.

A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “We received the call at 12.50pm. We sent three appliances. Crews assisted releasing casualties from the vehicle.

“We had hydraulic cutting gear in use, and firefighters assisted with casualty care and assisted police.”

Stagecoach buses travelling between Stonehaven and Montrose were diverted on to the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road following the crash.
