A Tayside man has been convicted at Edinburgh High Court of child sex assault and rape over a period of several years.

Jamie David Thom, 30, of Millfield Road in Arbroath, was found guilty by a jury of sexually assaulting a child.

He was also found guilty of sexually assaulting and raping another child.

The offences are alleged to have happened at a property in Dundee between July 2015 and March 2018.

Thom was also found guilty of a further charge of being in possession of indecent images of a child.

He was found guilty of the three charges following a five-day trial.

The advocate depute moved for sentence after the jury had returned from deliberation and given their verdict.

Judge McFadyen deferred sentence until November 11.

Thom’s defence agent made no motion for bail and he was remanded in custody.

The counsel also reserved any plea in mitigation pending the court obtaining a criminal justice social work report.

The initial case was first heard at Dundee Sheriff Court where Thom appeared and faced a series of allegations covering the last four years.

Thom had been on bail before the Edinburgh trial after being granted special conditions that he did not approach or contact either of the children or their mother.
