Dundee Sheriff Court.
Dundee Sheriff Court.

A Dundee man has appeared in court charged with stealing a wallet and a handbag from two elderly women.

David Stewart, 48, is accused of targeting a 76-year-old  on Lochee High Street and removing a wallet and its contents from her zimmer frame.

The alleged incident was said to have happened on September 16.

A second charge states that around a month later, on October 15, Stewart assaulted and robbed 83-year-old woman on Stirling Street in the Hilltown.

He is said to have pushed her to the ground to her severe injury before robbing her of her handbag and its contents.

Stewart appeared  in private at Dundee Sheriff Court on Friday and made no plea or declaration.

His case was continued for further examination and he is expected to return to court next week.

There was a police presence near a play park in the Hilltown on Tuesday after an incident involving an elderly woman.

Four police vehicles were spotted at the junction of Kinloch Street and Rosebank Street, as well as a number of officers with police dogs.

Locals passing the scene said they had seen a person lying on the grass near a public footpath.

One nearby resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I saw the police with a dog at the playpark and wondered what had happened.

“It’s awful. It’s why I never go out at night now. I only go out during the day.”
