Nurseries in Dundee and Angus are being encouraged once again to help raise funds for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

Tayside nurseries and youth groups raised an impressive £3384 last summer by having fun and holding pirate-themed “Big Toddles”.

Now, nursery nurses, child-minders and parents across the region are being asked to don their thinking caps once again and register to take part in this year’s animal-themed Big Toddle, which will be extra special to mark the charity’s 150th anniversary.

Last year, little ones dressed up as pirates and donned eye patches as they completed half a mile to raise money for the UK’s most disadvantaged children and young people.

Deborah Grossman, regional community fundraising manager for Barnardo’s Scotland, said: “A massive thank you to everyone who took part in last year’s Big Toddle, helping us raise over £28,500 for our work with some of the Scotland’s most vulnerable children.

“This is a really special year for the charity, as it’s our 150th year. We’re really excited so many people are taking part in this year’s animal-themed Big Toddle, and we’re hoping more people will sign up to join in the fun.”

This year’s Big Toddle events will be taking place at Calderglen Country Park on the June 19, Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre on June 21 and at Loch Lomond Shores on June 25.

The Calder Glen Park event is a special event for dads and male guardians and their children held on Father’s Day as part of the Scottish Government’s Year of the Dad initiative.
