Dundee has taken a stand against against homophobia and transphobia.
Lord Provost Bob Duncan was joined in the City Square by pupils from the city’s Craigie High School to unfurl the international symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights, the rainbow flag.
He said: “Dundee is a welcoming and warm city and that extends to everyone no matter their sexual orientation or the gender they identify as.
“The cause of LGBT rights has been more widely publicised and gained ground in recent years, but there is still more to be done.
“By flying the rainbow flag over the City Chambers we are showing our solidarity with and support of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.”
In the late 1970s, San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker helped to popularise the rainbow flag as a symbol of the campaign for LGBT rights.
The colours were designed to symbolise: life (red), healing (orange), sunlight (yellow), nature (green), harmony (blue) and spirit (purple/violet).
